A3DK (Alice and the Three Dark Kings) is an independent fashion design studio focusing on accessories for fashion and BJD dolls. Our Chakra Collection is geared most toward 1/6 scale fashion dolls and closely sized relatives, our Victorian Mind Collection is for BJD's of all sizes, and our upcoming Alice and the Dragon's Eyes Collection is for an oriental flair to either fashion or BJD dolls. As my name is actually Alice, I have often enjoyed reading Wonderland stories. I notice that my real life Wonderland has sometimes been more dark and vivid than any story, and I am writing pieces which reflect that intensity of experience. I love to design jewelry which does so as well.

Each of the A3DK collections has a name to reflect its intent as well; Chakra is named for the physical points which correspond to various types of mental and physical harmony in Indian vedic medicine. Several of the Chakra points happen to coincide with many of the spots where we place circlets, necklaces, belts, and if the Chakra is properly opened, create attunement with the world around us as well as internal balance, health and peace. We would like our designs, as they drape your dearest dolls, to help reflect their inner spirit and greatest grace. Victorian Mind is an amalgam of what the human heart must have contained in the breaking days of the 20th century, a mixture of snatches of hidden stories, of belief in the spiritual and willingness to believe in so many wonders of an unknown world only coming into the light, of high-minded belief that we did know anything at all mixed with amazement at all the new layers of our world as we "discovered" them. Alice and the Dragon's Eyes is a synthesis of the most elegant and powerful Asian esthetics.

We began work when we noticed a critical lack of mature, sophisticated additions to the ensembles presented for 1/6 scale dolls. In particular, we lament the paucity of Manolo Blanik styled shoes, attractive purses and belts or individualized accessories that step out of the mainstream. In the case of the belts, we think this lack is due to the variability of sizing needed for a variety of outfit types, and we've addressed this by developing designs that can be easily adjusted for the profile of the outfit design. Since we have our own collection of sweet and delicate Momoko dolls, we're also happy to have designs that can be fit to these more slender profiles.

We also have an ongoing concern with ease of use; after causing ourselves carpal tunnel from trying to fasten our own necklaces, doll items are a challenge we would rather not have to conquer - and this even without arthritis! Chakra designs are developed with ease of fastening as a critical design component. Hooks and loops are made so that they can be easily inserted, and stay fastened by the weight of the design, then be easily disengaged when needed. Hooks are made with the small eye pins used for other components of the jewelry so that colors and shades match perfectly, and should they ever become bent out of shape, they can easily be put back in line with a simple pair of pliers. Many designs are made with hoops so fastening as as simple as slipping the end of the belt through the circlet.

As we have branched into the wonders of the BJD, and love our resin dolls from 20 cm to 60 cm tall, we find that these qualities are also valuable in the resin world, and hope to carry forward quality and creativity everywhere we go.

Our designs are typically one of two types - ones for which the main work is the time and effort to search world round for unique and gorgeous components, that might take a half an hour to assemble and are priced under $20, and those for which hand labor takes hours in addition to the price of components and extensive design work, priced from $20 to $35. A3DK has only OOAK items up right now, but may at times release Limited Editions of six to ten. Many parts used in all our pieces are sterling silver and semi-precious stones are often used. Parts are numerous and apparently rather stubborn, based on the number of tiny metal bits that go spanging across the room into my husband's coffee.

Later this year we'll unveil our Tiny Project, a cheerful engagement with the idea that every doll has its own personality - often with few ways outside the basic outfit to express their likes, desires, and interests. There is not a purse in my house that doesn't have some sort of individual trinket attached, and with the Tiny Project you can easily give your darling a fun, flashy little token of her own delights. Just snap the lobster claw onto the strap of your favorite purse and declare her interest in diving, theatre, fashion, or fairies. Tiny Project designs are limited to one of each design so your doll's statement is hers alone. We search for the highest quality, sharpest detail, and most original components for our designs. Extremely inexpensive, especially given our extensive research time, and very fun.

We also will house a number of individual art jewelry pieces of various types such as the elegant and ornate Japanese-style kanzashi hair ornaments which will be featured over the summer in the Alice and the Dragon's Eyes Collection. Unique ways of showing your girl's true heart will be an ongoing part of our design work.
